The Billy Armstrong Situation

The Billy Armstrong Situation is an R-rated, full-length feature shot mostly on film (Super 16mm) using Prime lenses. Other cameras included Super 8mm film, digital video and VHS video. Main film stock Kodak Vision 2 with reversal cross-processing for select scenes. Black & white film stock was also used. All of the video was projected onto a digital screen and re-shot with Super 16 mm film.

The story is essentially an edgy drama with a whimsical sense of humor and is based on a play that was produced in Los Angeles, under the auspices of Equity's 99-Seat Theater Plan. At The Attic Theater and also staged at The Tamarind Theater in Beachwood Canyon.

LOGLINE:  An unconventional romance develops around a despondent, ex-minor league hockey player intent on killing a morally corrupt financial executive with conservative political views.

22 total production days. Locations included a farm in Northern Idaho, San Francisco downtown streets, the hills of Calabasas, Temescal Canyon cliffs, a prison in Lancaster, Studio City, Melrose Avenue, a Long Beach cemetery; and downtown Los Angeles near skid row (main location).

The Billy Armstrong Situation is Brian Kowalchuk's feature film debut as writer/director/producer, and is the English-speaking feature film debut of Mexican telenovella actress Marcela Pezet.
